A|  The Donner Party
B|       The Donner Party is one of the few history topics where the ugly and brutal stand out. Eventually, the party resorted to means of cannibalism towards the harsh end of their one-year odyssey (Bruce 62). The Donners begin this trip on April 16 1846 and reached their destination, California, in April of 1847 (Burns). This party does not consist of only Donner family members. There are several other families in the group such as the Reeds, Breens, and Stantons. In total, there were eighty seven members. This expedition leads them through many different harsh types of terrain such as deserts, mountains, thick woods, plateaus, and canyons (Rosen 2-3). Many things go wrong during this expedition. It is one of the most dramatic stories to tell. The languishing of the Donner Party is due to excessive ambition, accidents of nature, and mistakes such as ill preparations and miscalculations.
B|       To begin with, excessive ambition is a key characteristic that contributes to their downfall. This includes everyone in the party, and others who spread word to them along the journey
